Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 1, 2026
Applies to: DoSomething (dosomething.nicomedialabs.com) and all other apps operated by Nicomedia Labs LLC.
Overview
Nicomedia Labs LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use our apps and services.
We believe in minimalism: we collect only what's necessary to make the apps work, we don't sell your data, and we give you control over what you share with us.
Information We Collect
Location Data
When you use DoSomething, the app requests your device's geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) to find nearby places and fetch local weather conditions. This location data is sent directly from your device to Google Places API and Open-Meteo to fulfill your request. We do not store your location on our servers. Location data is never logged, retained, or used for advertising.
Preferences (Likes, Dislikes, Visited Places)
DoSomething stores your preferences — places you've liked or disliked, categories you enjoy, and places you've visited — on your device in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device unless you create an account and opt in to sync. If you create an account, this data is synced to Supabase (see “Third-Party Services” below) solely to enable cross-device access. You can use DoSomething without creating an account, and no preference data will be transmitted to any server in that case.
Account Data
If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address. You may sign up using your email and a password, or via Google OAuth. If you use Google OAuth, we receive your name and email address from Google. Your email is stored in Supabase and is used only for account authentication. We do not send marketing emails.
Automatically Collected Data
Our hosting provider (Vercel) may collect standard server logs including IP addresses, request timestamps, and User-Agent strings as part of normal web infrastructure operation. This data is used for security and performance monitoring only and is governed by Vercel's Privacy Policy.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
- To provide the core functionality of our apps (finding nearby suggestions, showing weather).
- To save your preferences so the app improves over time.
- To authenticate your account and sync preferences across your devices (account users only).
- To enforce fair-use rate limits on our API endpoints.
- To detect and prevent abuse or spam submissions (e.g., contact forms).
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the apps.
Third-Party Services
We rely on the following third-party services to operate our apps. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle your data:
Google Places API
We send your latitude and longitude to Google's Places API to find nearby places of interest. Google may process this data per its own terms. We do not send any personally identifying information to Google as part of these requests. See Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Open-Meteo
We send your coordinates to Open-Meteo to fetch local weather conditions. Open-Meteo is an open-source weather API that does not collect or store personal data. See open-meteo.com/en/terms.
Supabase
Supabase is used as a backend for account authentication and optional preference syncing. If you create an account, your email address and synced preferences are stored in Supabase's infrastructure. Supabase stores data in the United States. See Supabase's Privacy Policy at supabase.com/privacy.
Vercel
Our web apps are hosted on Vercel's infrastructure. Vercel handles request routing, CDN delivery, and may log standard server access logs. See Vercel's Privacy Policy at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Data Storage and Security
User preferences in DoSomething are stored in your browser's localStorage by default. This data is stored entirely on your device and is not accessible to us unless you create an account and sync.
Account data (email, synced preferences) is stored in Supabase with row-level security (RLS) enabled — meaning each user can only access their own data. Access is authenticated via Supabase's auth system.
We use HTTPS everywhere. Our API keys are never exposed to the client side. Reasonable security measures are in place, though no system is 100% secure.
Data Retention
If you use DoSomething without an account, your data lives only on your device. Clearing your browser's localStorage or uninstalling the app removes it entirely.
If you have an account, your data is retained in Supabase until you request deletion. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at contact@nicomedialabs.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Our apps are not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Withdraw consent for data processing.
- Data portability (receive a copy of your data in a portable format).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@nicomedialabs.com.
No Sale of Data
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties for commercial purposes. Full stop.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of our apps after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
